The Appeal
The original Biturbo, introduced in 1981, was a two-door, four-seater coupé with a two-litre engine featuring – as the name suggests – twin turbochargers. The Biturbo Spyder made its debut at the Turin Motor Show in 1984, and in total some 3,076 were made over a ten-year period. The Biturbo coupé was given a facelift, by design maestro Marcello Gandini, in 1988 and the same changes were made to the Spyder in 1989, introducing a rounded grille, fuller bumpers, aerodynamic wing mirrors and 15” wheels. At the same time the export models now featured a 2.8-litre engine, available (as here) with an optional four-speed auto ‘box.
An increasingly rare sight on UK roads, Biturbo Spyders as good as this one don’t appear very often. The car gives every appearance of having had a cosseted existence, and presents extremely well both inside and out. With the reassurance of an impressive folder of paperwork, dating back throughout the car’s history, the next owner can look forward to top-down motoring in style and comfort.
