Description
When the time came to replace the ever popular J2 in BMC’s Commercial range, the replacement was none other than the striking 250JU. If you are not already familiar with these wonderful vehicles, the layout is a “forward control” in that the actual cab of the vehicle sits on top of the engine (which made it s jolly cosy place to be in the winter months when these were out on the roads earning their keep at the time!). The then renowned B Series 1. 6 engine was carried over and used to good effect, the power feeling far greater than its 49BHP looked on paper. When road tested at the time the testers were all unanimous in the JU’s vast improvement over its predecessor the J2. The van was rated in a gross weight capacity therefore meaning the 250 stood for 2 and a half British Tons (not that that makes a difference now in 2021 as we doubt you would be looking to carry much on her beautifully restored bed …. but you never know!!).
Bradley James Classics are absolutely delighted to be able to offer you this absolutely exquisitely restored example ( a five year resto) you see here before your eyes today. She is from September 1973 making her one of the last as these were replaced in 1974 by the popular Sherpa.
Outside she is simply wonderful finished in gleaming Aquamarine Blue. The entire woodwork that you see was also replaced (in correct Ash) when she was rebuilt.
Step inside and you are greeted with a wonderful sight of how life was back in the late 60s / early 70s and one can imagine the workers that spent their lives pounding the roads earning a crust sat behind the wheel of one of these. There is patina in evidence inside on the interior but it all just looks right (and clearly original) and is a lovely place to be.
Mechanically she is spot on starting first tie every time her B series 1600cc engine and 4 speed gearbox having been fully rebuilt. She is a genuine pleasure ton drive.
Full walk round video is available on Youtube. There also accompanies the truck a memory stick showing all restoration photographs.
We advice getting in touch quickly as surely she will not be in stock long given her today immense rarity and the fact of how lovely she is. The truck will go through our workshop for a very thorough check over prior to collection or delivery. We offer a part exchange service and full UK delivery at a highly competitive rate.
