Description
This presented 2¾ hp single speed Douglas is in an untouched original condition, still retaining its factory paint finish, nickel platings on various parts, original bowden cables and leather cover of the spring saddle. Even the belt and tyres are fairly old on this amazing early motorcycle, manufactured in Kingswood, Bristol.
The Douglas is fitted with a 347 cc horizontally opposed twin cylinder engine - "automatic inlet valves, which can be quickly removed by unscrewing a cap. The exhaust valves are operated by tappepts, which are adjustable. The magneto is placed on the top of the crank case, and is gear-driven. The convenient position of the magneto enables the rider to advance or retard without the aid of a Bowden wire or other complications. A neat and effective silencer is fitted to each cylinder, the flywheel being outside is of larger diameter than would be possible inside the crank case." - as it could be read in a period catalogue.
As additional accessories, an acetylene headlamp is fitted to the bracket on the handlebar and a "Douglas Motors" tyre pump is mounted as well.
This early machine could be an outsanding piece for any collection or museum, as it would be really difficult to find a veteran Douglas motorcycle in so original condition like this specimen survived.
