Most car enthusiast already know that we at Legendary Classics have a thing for the iconic Mercedes 190SL. Over the years we have bought and sold many of the 190 “super leicht” in all conditions and all configurations. It is a misconception that SL stands for “sport leicht” on the 190. The term “sport leicht” is only correct for the famous 300SL better known as “Gullwing”.
As a dealer it is only occasionally you are still really impressed by a car.
This 1956 190SL one does exactly that.
This very early produced 190Sl ticks all the boxes on the rarity scale and makes even our heart beat a little faster.
The car was restored in full a little less then 10 years ago and was recently overhauled again technically. This Mercedes also received a full respray in its original colour.
So, about the condition we can be very brief.
This is a beautiful & healthy car in above average shape technically as well as optically.
It is when you dig deeper into the specifications and history of the car that you start to understand what kind of special specimen this is.
First of all; every move this car ever made, every service, every repair, change of hands etc. was documented in an impressively comprehensive history file.
Second, this 190 was one of the early production models which has some different specifications on itself. Things like finer chrome trim all around, smaller taillights & no clock in the dash.
Also, the early production cars like this one where delivered with the 300SL gullwing seats.
What makes this car even more special is the fact it was delivered in a very rare off production colour or “sonderlackierung” called “Perigrau”.
This in combination with the untouched but beautiful condition, blue leather interior give this car a very stylish appearance.
