A delightful 1929 Packard 640 Touring Deluxe, finished in blue over black, with cream detailing.
Introduced in 1928, the Custom Eight sported round-back headlamps, a dash mounted temperature gauge and larger capacity straight eight side-valve engines. An L head design, this revised powerplant developed some 109HP and was mated to a 3-speed manual gearbox. Built around a and larger 145” wheelbase, the Custom Eight’s leaf-sprung, ladder frame chassis featured all round drum brakes. Furthermore, a six-gallon capacity radiator and a Bijur lubrication system. The car carries twin Bosch horns, twin Packard safety “Trippe Speedlight” auxiliary lamps, twin scuttle lights and a windscreen pillar mounted CM Hall spotlight.
The interior has blue leather upholstery and is complemented by matching carpets. The wood effect dashboard has a full complement of instruments and is offset by an onyx gear knob and horn push.
Under the bonnet, the single Carter updraught carburettor is joined by an Autovac, Bijur lubrication reservoir, ceramic finish manifold, auxiliary Spartan Horns and a North East Company distributor. The wire wheels are shod with7. 00 x 20 white wall tyres. The front and rear bumpers boast fluted edges.
This 1929 Packard 640 Touring was first sold in Brooklyn, NY to a Mrs Winnie Richards. Accessories added to the purchase invoice to enhance the car were 2 spare tyres on wire wheels, a deluxe emblem, Onyx ball and Button, step plates, trunk and cover, 2 tyre mirrors, giant bumpers and a bugle horn.
