Description
After the TR5, Triumph decides to go for a new design and joins forces with Karmann, who is responsible for the design of the successor. Although the looks change considerably, it is less shocking under the skin with the TR6: the chassis, engines, suspension and doors are taken over from its predecessor. That does not have to be seen as a problem at all, the wonderful six-cylinder with manual four-speed gearbox and optional overdrive are enjoyable ‘up to and including’.
Fifty years ago, this Triumph TR6 was delivered to its first owner, who immediately stole the show because it is a tough car, this two-seater roadster that was built in Coventry, England.
The tasteful dark blue TR has been in the Netherlands since 2001 and in that time has had three owners, two of whom have owned it for more than ten years. Enthusiasts who have cherished the car and maintained it with care. The Triumph is a real driver’s car, which perfectly combines sportiness and fun. The car is powered by a 2. 5-litre six-cylinder engine that produces 150 horsepower and sounds great. The engine is mated to a four-speed manual transmission and, in this case, the optional and much-loved overdrive. This makes it both a car for sporty touring trips and for visiting distant holiday destinations.
The car has been fully restored in the past and still looks very good. The body is equipped with original and sleek sheet metal with neat panel fittings. The bodywork has some minimal traces of use befitting the age and mileage of the car. The TR6 stands on original steel wheels with tires in the correct sizes. It gives the TR6 that well-known ‘thick’ appearance.
The interior is equipped with beautiful time-correct bucket seats that are partly covered with ribbed fabric and partly with imitation leather. The seats are in very neat condition, just like the black upholstery. The wood on the dashboard is neatly cared for, as are the Smith instruments. In addition, all controls function as they should. We almost forgot to mention the Sonnenland convertible top in very neat condition, so here it is.
The technology is always well maintained and the six-in-line performs well. Even after more than 45 years, the soundtrack of the TR6 is still not to be missed. Things such as the chassis and the brakes are also well maintained and give the car pleasant driving behaviour. The transmission and overdrive also function properly and can be operated precisely. The bottom of the TR is neat and rust is not present.
In short, a very nice Triumph TR6 in a beautiful colour scheme and in good condition. Really a car for the driver, enjoy!
