Description
This beautifully presented MG Magnette ZB has spent most of its life in the Republic of Ireland. The British Motor Industry Trust Heritage certificate with the car confirms the car was built on the 9th May 1958 in RHD format for the export to Ireland. The MG was subsequently registered MYI 985 and still retains its original brown ‘buff’ logbook confirming six owners in over 60 years. Our ZB spent most of its years in County Cork and arrived back in the UK in 2020.
Prior to coming to the UK in late 2020, the MG had considerable mechanical work carried out in Ireland. This work included new brake cylinders, new brake linings, new handbrake cables, new water pump, clutch, pressure plate and release bearing, new gearbox seal, removed and cleaned out fuel tank, new fuel pump, rebuilt carburettors and rebuilt cylinder head.
During early 2021 the MG was subject of a major service to include new oils, filters, ignition items and some light mechanical work to include engine mounts, track rod ends, new rear brake pipes and the brakes were stripped down and cleaned. Due to the strong mechanical condition of the car, the owner then decided to commission a cosmetic program of work costing in the region of £20, 000.
First of all, the dashboard and woodwork were removed and sent to a specialist for re-conditioning, re-veneering and polishing. The interior was further improved with a brand new wool carpet set, new boot set, and the original leather upholstery was removed, and then carefully repaired and fully re-conolised to leave a very original, high quality finish. The MG was stripped down and fully re-finished in duo tone by a local experienced painter. The MG was then fitted with all new window and windscreen seals, and thousands of pounds spent on re-chroming to give the car a lovely overall finish. Now UK registered 571 XVN, the MG is ready to use and enjoy. Having gone to huge expenditure, the last owner has sold the car and it therefore now offers an excellent opportunity.
Prior to the work, this was a strong, honest, original car and its now been taken to a lovely standard, ideal for regular use, shows and rallies.
