Description
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was created to compete in the World Rally Championship. Based on Ford Europe’ Sierra, it was engineered by Ford’s Special Vehicle Operations, designed by MGA Developments and developed by Ford’s works team drivers Francois Delecour and Miki Biasion. Its turbocharged Cosworth YB engine did produce over 200 bhp to deliver to all 4 wheels via a 5 speed gearbox and a 34 to 66 front to rear split. In the hands of additional legendary drivers such as Tommi Makinen and Carlos Sainz, between 1993 and 1998 the Escort RS Cosworth claimed 8 WRC victories and over 35 European and national rallying titles. To achieve homologation, Ford produced a limited number of road cars from 1992 to 1996. The early cars were produced till mid 1994 and were the ones that actually achieved homologation. They were equipped with a YBT engine turbocharged by a special Garrett T3 turbine and T04B compressor wheel hybrid rendering a temperamental and vicious car. Its turbo lag and massive output necessitated the more tamed version to follow with a YBP engine equipped with a smaller Garrett T25 turbocharger and anti lag EEC-IV electronic management. This 2nd generation was produced in 3 times more copies with the 1st one being rarer and most sought after as a homologation thoroughbred.
The Escort RS Cosworth offered is one of the early cars produced on April of 1994 in Diamond White and Lux specs. Soon after it was imported in Athens, Greece by a marque specialist and collector prior to receiving numerous upgrades to Group N standards. The body was welded with a Safety Devices FIA approved roll cage fitted, the interior trim was removed to lightweight specifications, the engine was equipped with Ford’s electronic Anti Lag System, alloy intercooler, APR studs and bolts as well as a free flow exhaust system. After being tested and established on local rally sprints, it is now offered fully serviced by foremost rally preparation Tsagaras Motorsports and ready for any historic hillclimb or track day event.
