Description
This is a really lovely HRG 1500, used first as a demonstrator by the Scottish dealer, John Brown and being sold to its first owner, Thomas Christie, and first registered in January 1950.
Thomas Christie is known to have used the car in competition, notably in the Silverstone Daily Express Production Car Race (car number 12) on 26th August 1950.
The car has recently been repainted in the original black and has excellent chrome work. The high quality interior in green leather is in fine condition and there is a full set of black weather equipment: hood, tonneau and side screens, all finished to a high standard.
W165 is delightful to drive, holding very good oil pressure and with lively performance. The brakes have been converted to hydraulic operation, as found on later examples of the 1500, these having been overhauled recently.
HRG’s have a devoted following and it is easy to see why this should be. They look very good from all angles, they are light and responsive to drive and they handle very well indeed.
