This stunning Alfa Romeo 6C 2600 was built on a genuine Alfa 6C 2300 chassis by marque expert and renowned ‘resurrectionist’ Neil Twyman, the man behind the CEGGA-Ferrari and the Lotus Breadvan also listed with The Old Racing Car Company.
Having done meticulous research into the history and development of the original cars, the owner settled on the Alfa Romeo 6C 2300, which had been introduced at the 1934 Milan Show, as the latest iteration of a model that had originated in 1925 from the 6C 1500. The latter was the first true expression of the design genius of Vittorio Jano, who had masterminded Alfa Romeo’s meteoric rise to world-class stature in the mid-1920s with racing designs that proved virtually unbeatable at Grand Prix level.
Having carefully sourced an original Alfa 6C 2300 closed car in Switzerland the owner then entrusted the rebuild to marque expert Neil Twyman. He removed the original body from the chassis, then started to modify the chassis to take its bespoke, all aluminium, two seat coachwork. The car then underwent a full mechanical overhaul including the engine and gearbox which was rebuilt with close ratio gears. Attention then passed to the braking and suspension system. Finally, the car was finished with period screens, instruments and leather interior trim, with the highest attention to detail throughout, which is why so many discerning customers have commissioned Neil and Craig Twyman to build and service their cars.
Having taken delivery and completed several European road trips the owner then decided to lavish more investment in the car and commissioned Dan Setford, of Setford and Company and formerly of Jim Stokes, to bespoke build a new more powerful 2. 6 litre engine which is in the car currently.
The car is in mint condition, and has been meticulously maintained, and it is a credit to its owner that the original body and 2. 3 litre engine have been preserved for posterity and are included in the sale. The car is accompanied by a substantial history file containing numerous invoices, photographs of the build and other related history, together with its current V5C.
This is a rare opportunity to own a superb pre-war icon which has been rebuilt to the highest standards by one of the very best in the business.
