Description
The SL 107 series, which came on the market in 1971 as the successor to the so-called "Pagode" (Mercedes-Benz W 113), established a new design line at Mercedes-Benz with the wide-band H4 headlights and the large, ribbed taillights . A slight wedge shape indicated improved aerodynamics. The designer responsible for this series was again Friedrich Geiger, who was already responsible for the timeless creations of the 300 SL (including the Roadster) and the Mercedes-Benz 500 K. The appearance of the R 107 determined the style of Mercedes-Benz Benz design in the seventies. Many details can also be found in the S-Class presented in 1972, the Mercedes-Benz W 116.
As with the previous model, the US was the largest sales market. Most vehicles were equipped with large volume V8 engines. The A-pillar was designed to be particularly strong when tipping over, and an airbag had been available since 1982.
With the 450 SLC, 450 SLC 5. 0 and 500 SLC, Daimler-Benz took part in major rallies in the late 1970s, such as the 30, 000 km long Vuelta à la America del Sud (1977), the Safari Rally (1979) and the Bandama meeting ( 1979/ 1980).
A successor was developed in the early 1980s, but was shelved in favor of the mid-range W 124 and W 201 series. As a result, the R 107 series remained available for a total of 18 years.
The car here is a 1983 Mercedes and with the four speed automatic gearbox. The color of the car is blue metallic with a gray leather interior. The most special thing about this 500 SL is the low mileage of 82469 km. which is very little for a large 5 liter engine. The car also has the hard-top so it can be driven in winter. It is a very beautiful car and exudes a certain grandeur inside. A real 500 SL for the enthusiast!
