Description
The Classic Car Company is delighted to offer another of these cracking little Fiat 500Ds - one of the very best we have ever come across.
Fiat produced their iconic 'suicide door' 500 D from 1960 - 1965. This was also available with the 'Transformable roof' which folds all the way back down to the engine bay.
This combination of fully convertible roof and suicide doors is rare now, and has become the most collectable version of the 500.
This particular example was built in September 1963, and first delivered to Italy. It remained in the region of Calabria (very south) until we sourced and imported it into the UK for a client back in 2014. From the late 1990s until 2014 it was in the care of a family in Cosenza. A father and son, both Police officers, shared the car and had it completely restored in 2014, with the following work carried out:
- Full, glass out, bare metal re-spray in 115 Rosso Medio
- Rebuilt original 499cc engine and gearbox
- Underside stripped and protected
- Rebuilt brakes
- Rebuilt steering
- Rebuilt suspension
- Rebuilt electrics
- New interior
- New roof
We were tasked to find the very best 500D that money could buy, and after inspecting many examples, selected this car to bring back to the UK. It has been with its soul UK owner since then, and part of her excellent collection.
The car has covered around 3, 000 KMs since the restoration, always stored inside, and maintained by us. Its been displayed at various car shows (inc NEC Classic Car Show) and was part of The Goodwood Revival celebrations in 2017. It remains in unbelievable condition having been cherished by its owner and us!
It has just (June 2024) had a full check over and service, so is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
A chance to own an appreciating classic that brings a smile to whoever comes into contact with it!
