Description

By the mid-1930s, cars using the proprietary Meadows engine were seen as the way forward for Lagonda. The first of these - the M45, introduced in 1934 - deployed Meadows' 4. 5-litre, twin-plug 'six' to good effect, saloons being capable of reaching 90mph and tourers the 'ton' under favorable conditions. Under the great W O Bentley's technical direction the big Lagonda became more refined, gaining synchromesh gears, flexible engine mounts, and centralised chassis lubrication among many other improvements.

The ultimate expression of the big, Meadows-engined Lagonda - the LG6 - arrived in 1937. Announced at the same time as the Bentley-designed V12, the LG6 used a similar, diagonally cross-braced chassis featuring independent front suspension using unequal length wishbones and torsion bars. Regardless of the style of body fitted, the LG6 was good for around 100mph, only 82 LG6s were produced of which around 50 are documented by the Lagonda Club today.

This striking LG6 is offered in excellent condition, the paintwork holds a high level of sheen and the engine runs beautifully and has covered a mere 500 miles since being rebuilt by the renowned David Wall. A large history file accompanies GPD 558 and dates back to the 50?s.

The exterior is beautifully finished in a deep maroon, with the hood up and weatherproofed the styling is still exceptional. The beige roof beautifully contrasts the darker paintwork and other than being useful, the pram irons compliment the look. With the roof down is where the true beauty lies, the body lines flow along the length of the car, there are twin mounted spare wheels with body colour covers, the spoked wheels are also finished in the same maroon.

The interior was completed by the renowned Alan Geater; so what you are left with is pure excellence. The Tan Connolly leather has been well treated and the interior styling is some of the best, fluted leather to the front and rear seats, well-styled door cards with outside border and pocket.
