Description

The Alfasud was developed under a constellation of the brilliant minds of R. Hruska (front wheel drive technology), C. Bossaglia (flat 4 Boxer design), Al. Mantovani (body engineering) and G. Giugiaro (body design). The opposing heads of its engine allowed for a low center of gravity and an aerodynamic profile to complement its sharp handling via its rack and pinion steering, MacPherson struts, Watts links and disc brakes. Alfasud's 2-door sport variant was redesigned exclusively by Hruska and unveiled as 'Turismo Internationale' (ti) on November of 1973. It featured larger twin choke Webers, a choice of 4 or 5 speed gearbox, 4 halogen headlights, front and rear spoilers and special wheels. In 1977 the ti was upgraded with a larger engine capacity and a Super-series derived restyling that included new bumpers, plastic wheel arch extensions and black spoilers. In 1981 the C-pillars of the body were reinforced to provide a new 2-door hatchback arrangement to be used on the Ti as well as the Super series. The final and most powerful Ti version was the Quadrifoglio Verde that was unveiled in 1982. It benefited from a 1. 5lt engine with twin Weber 32 DIR carburettors, Speedline wheels, low profile tyres, leather steering wheel, bucket seats and a red scudetto grille. During production, the Ti’s racing potential was explored in motorsports with numerous distinctions including Monte Carlo class wins for years 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983 1984 and 1985.
The collection of Alfasuds offered celebrates 50 years since the release of the first 2-door Alfasud ti in November 1973 and consists of 2 ti rally cars with remarkable recent competition history, a superb 2-door Super 1. 2 5-speed and a stellar 1983 1. 5lt Ti Quadrofoglio Verde. Carefully selected over 10 years, this collection presents an unparalleled opportunity to acquire a display of Alfa Romeo's engineering marvel, history and heritage.

The cars:
1976 Alfa Romeo Alfasud ti, rally car, Monte Carlo Historique.
This Alfasud was produced in 'ti' trim in 1976, the very year Autodelta produced Trofeo Alfasud ti cars. Two decades later it was acquired by an Alfasud collector and historic rally driver to be prepared for competition rallying by Tsagaras Motorsports. Weight was addressed via removing all but dashboard trim, fitting lightweight insulating cards along with Perspex glass. The body was extensively welded with a Sassa-provided reinforced roll cage was installed. A 1. 5 Ti engine was prepared by Motori Gerovasilis with forged Autodelta pistons and rods, lightweight crankshaft, cylinder-head porting and 38 Webers to deliver 120 bhp and 14. 8 kg/ m to the front wheels via a 5 speed short ratio gearbox. The factory brakes were converted to power assisted rear wheel handbraking for hard cornering. The Alfasud has since competed to a local winter rally prior to the 25th Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique. It is now offered fully serviced and recently certified with parts including snow and rain tires over Alfasud Cromodora 13in wheels.

1979 Alfa Romeo Alfasud ti, rally car.
This Alfasud was produced in 1979 in 'ti' trim featuring the color-coded front and black rear plastic spoilers, special wheels, 3-spoke steering wheel and carpeting throughout. Twenty years later it was acquired by a family of Alfa Romeo rallying and racing international champions with longtime close ties with the factory and Autodelta via Tipo 33 and 105 GTA racing. To commemorate Alfasud’s racing heritage, the ti was period-restored to Group 2 class with 1. 5 lt Boxer upgrade and presented at the 5th Historic Acropolis Rally. Soon after it was acquired by an adamant and dedicated Alfasud collector and distinguished driver, well established in historic international rallying scene. His passion led to a series of rallying participations that revived the ti's glorious potential to a superior standing of fourteen 1st class wins. Upon completion of its last race in 2019 the ti was extensively restored by Tsagaras Motosports at a no-expense-spared show condition via competition and NOS Ricambi parts including an ultra rare original shell seam welded to Group 2 standards.
