Description
Paris-based manufacturer Amilcar produced their CGS model between 1923 and 1925 and was a development from the Amilcar ‘C’. The new car featured four-wheel brakes, a longer and stronger chassis and the capacity of the four cylinder side-valve engine was increased to 1074 cc.
This Amilcar was discovered in a dismantled state around 1972 behind a car showroom in Essex. Prior to storage the car had apparently been rescued from a barn by one of the garage’s mechanics who stripped it to its bare chassis. Photographs on file show the car as found.
The Amilcar was restored between 1975 and 1980 to as close as possible to standard specification. New wings and a body skin were fabricated by Peel Bros of Surbiton and during the restoration process a slightly earlier engine and correct specification rear axle were sourced and installed.
In December 1987 the CGS was purchased by prominent vintage car enthusiast Jeffrey Ody of Devizes. During his tenure Ody improved the car further and repainted the chassis from black to blue. Ody also replaced the engine with a 1926 unit to the correct 1074 cc specification.
The current owner purchased the Amilcar in May 2015 and has since enjoyed it in various events around the country. The GCS has been maintained by I. S. Rolls, Vintage & Classic Engineering of Rochester, Kent who fitted a new flywheel ring gear in August 2021 along with a new starter motor supplied by specialists Auto Electric Supplies Ltd in 2022.
The car comes with a history file containing UK V5 registration document, VSCC eligibility document, multiple invoices and MOT certificates and correspondence with previous owners.
This rare and attractive Amilcar CGS is now available for sale in great order, on the button and ready to be enjoyed by a new owner.
