Description
Citroen's BX was unveiled as a successor to GS in 1982 under the Eiffel Tower. Despite its hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension, disc brakes and Peugeot-derived platform & rear suspension, it caused a sensation for its striking design. Penned by Countach-designer Marcello Gandini, it reflects his predilection in the early 80s of embracing curves with angular elements. With long unhindered body lines paralleled by sets of stripes, the BX's design emanates Citroen's sophisticated industrial engineering. Its lightweight construction of 900 kg via using plastic bonnets, trunk lids and bumpers permitted fitting engines of low capacity, high reliability and economy. In 1986 the BX was revamped by a new instrument panel with analog gauges and new stalks, a facelifted exterior with clear front indicators alligned to the headlights and smoother bumpers. Two years later the tailights received smoked lenses and the wheels a new trim.
The BX offered was produced in late 1988 to be imported and registered in Greece. Soon after it benefitted from the higher compression 1. 4lt engine option of 72 bhp and 5 speed transmission. Since then it was preserved by its first owner prior to receiving partial restoration by Citroen experts as part of a private collection. Presenting with only 38064 km and in exceptional cosmetic and mechanical condition, this BX constitutes an uncompromised reference to Citroen’s history and design.
