Description
Citroën unveiled the Ami 8 at the Geneva Motor Show on March 11, 1969, as a replacement for the declining sales of the Ami 6 sedan. Designed under the direction of Robert Opron, who took over Citroën's design department after the death of Flaminio Bertoni, this new car was finalized in just a few months. Despite budget constraints, the decision was made to retain the platform and engine of the Ami 6. The Ami 8 abandoned the inverted rear window in favor of a roof extension, adopted a simpler front end and hood, bumpers with rubber bumpers, and an integrated license plate at the front. With its 6 side windows and recessed door handles, it presented a completely new overall line.
From its launch, the Ami 8 was offered in two versions: Comfort and Club. The Club version incorporated the amenities of the Ami 6 Club with the exception of the 4 headlights and Gala wheel covers. Citroën's Ami 8 represents an important moment in the history of French automobiles. The car presented today has undergone a complete restoration and is in exceptional condition.
