EXTERIOR
Finished in Raptor grey, this Mono is an ultra high performance road legal supercar designed and manufactured using racing technology that set a new benchmark in an elite segment of lightweight track vehicles. This vision runs throughout the Mono’s appearance and it was fundamental to the designers that form followed function on all aspects of the car. A central driving position and easy access to adjustable dampers, as well as providing clean airflow to the radiators and engine, are just some of the factors on which Mono’s architecture is built – the results are pure race car aesthetics for the road.
This example benefits from having Paint Protection Film (PPF) applied to all the high impact areas which was all fully renewed in late 2023.
INTERIOR
Climbing in requires some care and attention and should not be rushed, with the F1 Style steering wheel removable via a quick release mechanism if needed, before settling into the single seater cockpit secured via a 5 point Willans harness. The carbon fibre tub has minimal luxuries but is beautifully finished in alcantara and leather, defined with red stitching and plenty of carbon fibre on display alongside a pair of storage pockets either side of the seat and a retro-fitted USB charger for extended touring capability.
A start procedure is necessary to ensure all systems for security, engine and gearbox are checked before the engine fires into life. Track telemetry and all necessary information is available via the LCD screen on the steering wheel with all other controls neatly packaged and close to hand,
The nose of the vehicle provides a ‘luggage’ compartment and doubles as impact protection.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The standard Mono is powered by a naturally aspirated 2. 3 litre four cylinder Cosworth engine producing 285 bhp at 7700 rpm making for some crazy headline numbers – 525 bhp per tonne, 0-62 mph in just 2. 8 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph.
Not content with standard package, the current owner embarked upon an open cheque book exercise to upgrade everything to the latest spec BAC’s engineering team could offer. Not only now featuring the Mono R cooling system, headers, downpipes, engine mounts and driveshafts the latest spec wishbones are now installed alongside an updated anti-roll bar all optimised by race geometry and corner weight setup including camber shims for optional slick tyres.
The 6 speed sequential gearbox is operated via paddles on the steering wheel with an hydraulic clutch still in place. Operating much like a motorbike gearbox moving up and down through the box with the clutch not necessarily needed during enthusiastic or performance driving. The drivetrain now houses a Silverstone gear ratio set, with the original Touring set supplied, alongside a recently replaced clutch some 1k miles ago. A race jack completes a comprehensive track – spec package.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Lightweight black OZ Alleggerita alloys are freshly wrapped in specifically designed Kumho V70A tyres, with excellent tread appropriate for road and / or track.
AP Racing developed the braking system and as such the car carries 4 pot calipers all round, branded and clamped to drilled steel discs.
HISTORY FILE
Originally ordered by a prominent Swiss collector this Mono was soon brought to the UK where it would reside with Litchfield UK who would send the car to BAC HQ in Liverpool for it’s first service in the summer of 2017.
After a period of careful storage and subsequent sale in 2021, the new owner fell in love with the concept and would begin his relationship with the brothers Briggs. Having never been on track before, the Mono would be the perfect candidate for enjoying the circuits of the UK ably supported by BAC track support. Given the current owner is now UK’s coordinator of the Mono Owners club it all went rather well! Naturally you would anticipate an excellent working relationship and with invoicing totalling over £50k there has been total commitment to developing the car alongside the factory over time. The development on this particular car has since seen upgrades applied to cars of a similar vintage so this example has been a forerunner for pre R spec vehicles going forward and it has proved itself both fast and reliable on it’s numerous outings over the last 3 years.
Purchasing this Mono will give the new owner entry into the exclusive world of factory supported Mono trackdays, with an enthusiastic group regularly attending private track events across the UK and Europe going forward.
It is testament to the dedication of enthusiasts like this that have enabled small manufacturers to grow and establish themselves in the marketplace; if you’re looking for a fully sorted and proven entry point into lightweight track focused entertainment then look no further.
All invoicing is present and correct in an extremely tidy history file alongside an Index of Mono vehicles produced, MOT certificates and the V5.
