Description
This beautifully presented MG F Type Magna has been subject of a magnificent bare chassis rebuild. Built in 1932, MG 1588 was built in Salonette format and exported to Switzerland. During its time in Switzerland the body was converted into tourer format before a wonderful well documented restoration in the Netherlands was carried out during the late 1990’s. A brand new, beautifully built 4 seater F1 Magna body was fitted to the chassis, the car completely re-trimmed with new weather equipment, and mechanically completely rebuilt.
A photographic record of the rebuild gives a detailed account of the restoration. The engine was completely stripped down, crankshaft removed and subject to all relevant machining work. The block was re-bored and built up with new pistons and bearings. Photos show new head studs, rebuilt cylinder head, and the engine was then beautifully painted and detailed, then re-fitted to the vehicle. The MG was completely renovated mechanically and put back on the road prior to coming over to the UK in 2012.
In 2013, the MG covered around 2000 miles on a Caledonian MG Car Club tour was reported to have performed faultlessly. In 2022 one of our long-term regular customers purchased the MG and spent the winter going through the car mechanically. He serviced the MG, and more serious expenditure went into a completely rebuilt differential and new half shafts. The MG was then ready for the 2023 season where it has been driven over the Wolds on a regular basis, covering many miles over rural North Yorkshire roads, never once missing a beat. Now ready for a new winter project, the MG has had to go in order to make space.
This MG really is a true delight on the road, its six cylinder engine runs so smoothly and offers really impressive performance. It feels spritely, strong and fit and only several thousand miles have been completed since it's rebuild. With a nicely aged feel, delightful older paint and trim, this MG really does appeal as a highly desirable, very well sorted, usable four seater sports car that also has a very fitting, valuable registration mark that was purchased for the car shortly after its arrival in the UK.
