Description
As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. In 1957, England was still in the midst of post-war economic recovery. The Suez Crisis was raging, fuel prices were soaring, prompting engineers to wonder if the fuel-guzzling cars of previous decades still had a future. Alec Issigonis, a senior engineer at Morris Company in England, was challenged to design and build a small, fuel-efficient car capable of carrying four adults. This project took him two years, and it was in 1959 that he brought it to fruition. The MINI was born.
An Icon of the 1960s
From the outset, the original design of the MINI captured attention. To create more interior space, Issigonis had moved the wheels to the corners of the car and positioned the engine sideways. These modifications allowed the MINI to comfortably accommodate four people while offering unmatched driving stability, making this small car an economical, playful, and maneuverable choice. The youth of the 1960s, imbued with the independence and spontaneity of the emerging culture, immediately fell in love with it. The MINI transcended British class barriers and became popular with everyone, from trendy youth to royalty. It became a true cultural phenomenon.
Renaissance
By 1969, over two million MINIs were sold worldwide, and that same year, the car even stole the spotlight from Michael Caine in "The Italian Job." In 1999, sales of the classic MINI surpassed five million, and it was voted "European Car of the Century" by a group of 130 international automotive journalists.
A MINI for Everyone
In the 1960s, the original MINI became an icon by crossing all cultural boundaries. From touring rock bands to families heading to the seaside, everyone in Britain piled into these cars to get around. The MINI was never a symbol of social status; it was designed for everyone.
A true automotive icon, the Mini traverses the years with as much enthusiasm.
The Mini we offer today is a "SPECIAL" version powered by a 1000cc engine. It is in excellent condition, both inside and out, and even features an original sunroof. The maintenance record as well as its technical inspection attest to its regular upkeep.
Treat yourself to a timeless myth that will never go out of style.
