Introduced along with the Rolls-Royce Spirit/ Silver Spur in 1980 as a successor to the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow/ Wraith and Bentley T-series sedans, the Bentley Mulsanne featured the numerous updates of its sister car with the usual Bentley styling differentiation. In 1982, Bentley was finally able to set itself apart from its counterpart with the addition of an optional turbocharger and different transmission/ suspension tuning, resulting in a number of nomenclature changes and the introduction of the Mulsanne Turbo and the Turbo R. An 'entry-level' model, the Eight, was introduced in 1984, bringing the Bentley name into ever more garages.
By 1992, the Silver Spirit/ Spur III was nearly ready for introduction, and Bentley felt it was time to simplify their range. The Mulsanne S and Eight were combined to make the Brooklands - a name steeped in company history and the name of the world's earliest known purpose-built racing circuit. As with the Mulsanne S, the model was largely a Silver Spirit with a Bentley grille, quad headlamps, a console-mounted shifter (for the first time in decades), and slightly different suspension tuning for more sporting handling. Unlike with the T-Series, Brooklands sales were roughly on par with the Rolls-Royce models. Even still, only 1, 343 were produced over its model run, with approximately 153 LHD examples being delivered in the 1996 model year. These cars are some of the last produced prior to Volkswagen's takeover in 1998 (though the first models to bear their mark weren't released until 2003), and therefore offer a look and feel vastly different to modern models.
The incredible 1996 Bentley Brooklands featured here is finished in Masons Black over a Black Connolly leather interior lined with Burl Walnut woodwork. With only 4, 843 miles on its odometer and nearly every creature comfort of its time as standard, this Bentley presents nearly as new. We are proud to offer what very well may be the lowest mile example in the world to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own one of the very best at an investment price!
