1956 Land Rover Series I 86″
“624 UXT” has been a family owned car for the last twenty five or so years, and has recently been subject to a comprehensive restoration carried out to a very high standard. Courtesy of marque specialists such as CKD Shop of Southam.
Benefitting from the following works;
Stripped entirely, original chassis and bulkhead remain. Entire vehicle shot blasted and body panels repainted from bare aluminium.
Front axle rebuilt with new chrome swivel housings, new swivel bearings, all new wheel bearings and all seals replaced.
The gearbox and transfer box have been rebuilt by the “The Rover Co.” at some point in the vehicles life, so this was left largely alone other than replacing the front and rear output seals and also renewing the handbrake shoes. The gearbox is very smooth shifting, with high and low ratio working as they should.
All brake components were replaced; new brake drums, new wheel cylinders, new flex hoses, new brake shoes and all new brake lines fitted. The original master cylinder was re-sleeved with a stainless-steel insert and rebuilt with new seals.
A new original specification fuel tank and all new fuel lines were fitted.
The wiring loom was replaced with an Autosparks loom, along with a complete dashboard rebuild and the mileage re-set to zero.
Four new Avon Traction 6. 50×16 tyres.
Exhaust system replaced with full stainless steel system.
All galvanising stripped, repaired as needed and re-galvanized All door seals replaced.
Door tops rebuilt with new runners and seals.
New SU Fuel pump and flexi fuel line replaced.
New Jones springs and new shock absorbers.
All chassis suspension bushes replaced
NOS rear Lucas Pork Pie Lamps sourced and fitted
The following recent work has been completed by CKD Shop:
Complete engine overhaul comprising of the following:
Strip to bare block and cylinder head, acid dip and glass bead blast back to bare castings.
Re-bore and deck flat the block.
Skim cylinder head – rebuild with new valve guides, new valves and valve springs, Re-paint both engine and cylinder head in two pack colour matched slate grey.
Rebuild oil pump with new gears and driveshaft.
Nitride heat treat crankshaft and re-machine to take new main and big end bearings.
Skim flywheel and replace starter motor ring and replace spigot bush.
Replace all core plugs.
Re-assemble engine with new pistons, all new bearings throughout, new camshaft, re-conditioned followers and all new seals and gaskets.
Rebuild front harmonic balancer
Replace timing chain and tensioner gear with bronze bushed version, rebuild tensioner system Oli filter housing and relief valve rebuilt, new oil filter fitted.
Glass bead blast all aluminium castings
PTFE black coat all fixings
All black painted parts were stripped, repaired/ straightened as needed and then E-coated followed by two pack satin black painting
New heater spec outlet water pipe
Exhaust manifold blasted, coated in high temp finish silver, new studs fitted.
New thermostat.
All engine machining and assembly work was carried out by TVR Power (the same chaps Land Rover Reborn use) and the engine is backed by a 2 year unlimited milage warranty from TVR Power.
All original ancillaries rebuilt including – carburettor, starter motor, dynamo and distributor.
Dynamo has also been “matched” to the original voltage regulator which was also rebuilt.
Brand new genuine Borg and Beck clutch and pressure plate fitted.
Re-cored original radiator and all new hoses and hose clips.
New 100AH YUASA battery
New Undercover Covers hood
New canvas rubbing strip fitted to top of grill panel
Rebuilt original horn push assembly with correct dip switch
The steering box rebuilt and all track rod ends replaced
New numberplates fitted front and rear
Full recent service of vehicle including all oils changed and carb tune carried out.
