PRINCIPAL FACTS:
A very good condition R107 500 SL finished in Smoke Silver Metallic with a Brazil Leather interior that’s covered 97, 207 miles since it was registered way back in 1988. Its condition is evidence that it’s been carefully looked after very well. We don’t see Brazil Leather here too often, and that’s regrettable, because the rich dark brown interior here looks sensational. That brown is right on trend, too, making this a very appealing example, that desirability added to thanks to the specification of heated seats, a limited-slip differential and a dark brown fabric hood, along with its hardtop.
CONDITION SYNOPSIS:
We’ve been through this car from front to back and it’s in great overall condition, with the current owner having okayed SLSHOP technicians to prepare it for sale. That Smoke Silver Metallic paintwork has lots of lustre, as does the chrome trim, while the condition of the interior looks superb, the dark brown leather looking all but new. There’s a too modern stereo head unit in the otherwise standard centre of the dashboard, it, and the speakers in the rear seat area jar a bit, but that’s all easily replaced with something more in keeping with its era. As with so many infrequent use cars, we’d recommend replacing all the tyres, as they’re old, but the wheels they’re on are free from scrapes, or pitting from brake dust. The dark brown hood looks like it’s rarely been up, but it’s in great condition, as is the hardtop.
HISTORY FILE:
There’s a good amount paperwork to accompany the car, and a duplicate service booklet (with lots of stamps present) outlining some of its care with previous owners. Bought from SLSHOP in 2017 by the current owner (and having only covered 5, 000 miles since) the condition it’s in underlines that it’s been looked after, with a number of MOTs highlighting the mileage to be correct. We’d certainly add a receipt for five (including the spare) new tyres to its history, but other than that it needs little other than annual servicing and fuel spending on it.
SLSHOP SUMMARY:
This 500 SL is a fine example, and a late model for the R107, too. It comes with a desirable specification including heated front seats, a body that’s straight true and has excellent paintwork and an interior that looks and feels wonderful. It’s a set of tyres and a more age-sympathetic stereo system away from being near perfect, as such we don’t expect this 500 SL to be in our showroom for too long.
