Description
Motodrome offer this remarkable 1965 Volvo ‘Amazon’ 122S 4-door manual overdrive, finished in it’s original colour scheme of dark blue with blue interior
Remarkable in that, apart from being resprayed in the original colour around 40 years ago, it’s beautifully original, having had just one owner since 1967, who’s kept it garaged all the time he’s had it, and used it sparingly over the past few years.
Compared to the horrors that some of the British motor industry was churning out in 1965, the Amazon, with it’s toughness and rally pedigree, feels light years ahead in terms of engineering quality and dynamic ability, and it feels like it’s been hewn from solid rock as it goes down the road.
This one is the desirable S model, with the B18 1778cc engine with twin carburettors, and the M41 4-speed manual overdrive gearbox which clicks in and out of overdrive smartly.
Odometer reading 18000 miles which, for the avoidance of doubt is actually 118000,
History wise, it comes with the original green logbook (as well as a modern V5, obviously), bills back to 1971, stamped original service book, owners handbook and workshop manual.
We’re minded to change the number plates to black and silver, but the ones fitted are the originals and part of this example’s history. If you prefer new plates to be fitted, we’ll happily oblige.
It’s absolutely lovely in my opinion – I prefer original rather than restored examples, and this one has originality in spades, as you’d expect given it’s continuous ownership over the last 58 years.
On our own website, you'll find our usual 2 videos – a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
