Description

The Car

The 130 Crew Cab was originally supplied to the Portuguese Fire Fighter local brigade (BV Fronteira), which explains its very low original mileage. The mileage is verifiable from the pre-restored vehicle. The 300 TDI engine was replaced by Land Rover Lisbon at only 17, 000 miles, maintaining EPA compliance for US import.

Once decommissioned from service, the vehicle was acquired by a local Land Rover enthusiast. The current owner undertook a restomod restoration, inspired by more involved Defenders. Highlights include Wolf military wheels, painted to match the body in Keswick Green, and a TD5 dashboard with a custom AC/ heater unit by Ministry of Defenders, valued at over $6, 000 before installation.

The restoration process was thoroughly documented with photos. The chassis was fully stripped, primed, painted, and reassembled using zinc-plated fixings. Due to the engine's low mileage, it was not fully rebuilt but overhauled, including a rebuilt injection pump and clutch. The gearbox was rebuilt, and the chassis reassembled with new springs, shock absorbers, brake lines, and bushes.

The body was fully disassembled, stripped, and repainted in the contemporary Puma color palette of Keswick Green, a favorite among Land Rover enthusiasts.

The interior features unique, modern seating in the first and second rows, including ISOFIX, making the vehicle ideal as a practical family weekend vehicle. For additional safety, a Safety Devices external roll cage can be fitted to provide rollover protection and peace of mind.

The Wolf wheels are equipped with BFGoodrich Mud Terrains 235/ 85R16 tires.

All technical inspection records are available to substantiate the low mileage, and a clean CarFax report is also provided. This is a unique opportunity to acquire an incredibly sensibly priced 130 that is turnkey and ready to use.

Detailed restoration photos and videos are available upon request for interested parties.

History of the Land Rover

The Land Rover Series range, originating in 1948, evolved into the Defender model, officially launched in 1983 and concluding its continuous run in January 2016 after an impressive 67-year history. Initially inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep post-World War II, Land Rovers gained widespread longevity, with a claim in 1992 that 70% of all vehicles ever manufactured were still in use. Throughout its production span, the Defender and Series ranges maintained a distinctive international presence, being exported, manufactured, and produced under license by various companies in diverse markets. These markets included Australia, Southern and North Africa, Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan, Malaysia, and more.

In a strategic move to tap into the US market, Land Rover entered the North American scene in 1993, following the successful introduction of the Range Rover brand in 1987. This move aimed to provide a sophisticated alternative to the Jeep Wrangler, catering to adventurous buyers. However, economic challenges led Land Rover to withdraw from the North American and Canadian markets in 1997. The Defenders offered in the US during the 90s underwent significant modifications compared to those destined for Land Rover's other export markets. Subsequent amendments to federal safety regulations ultimately compelled Land Rover to entirely remove the Defender from the US market in 1997. Consequently, the company redirected its focus towards the production of upmarket Discovery and Range Rover models, built from the ground up.
