This Jaguar Mk II was manufactured in 1965 and exported to South Africa. At some point the engine was upgraded from the original 3. 4 unit to the current 3. 8. It remained in South Africa until 1991 when it was repatriated to the UK and with its British owner, the motor car underwent a total restoration which included a bare metal respray and a complete engine overhaul (comprising of a re-bore, cylinder work and a lead free conversion amongst others), carried out by VSE engine specialists.
The current custodian, a retired RAF jet pilot, purchased the Jaguar in 2017 and implemented a rolling, documented restoration over the following five years. Work has included the fitting of a multitude of new parts: a full red leather interior (with the correct reclining front seats); burr walnut woodwork; seatbelts; hydraulic rack and pinion steering; Panhard rod and polyurethane bushes to the rear suspension and new bushes to the front; polyurethane engine mounts; steering bushes and track rod ends; a Revotec fan; a new radiator and stainless steel pipes; a heater matrix; front fog lights and rear tail light assemblies; electronic fuel pump; a spin-off oil filter; an alternator; a wiper motor; horns; a MotoLita steering wheel; Coombes-style rear wheel spats; a clutch master cylinder; a slave cylinder and a Goodridge easy bleed system. A carburettor overhaul has also been carried out, a heat shield has been fabricated over the manifold and the original front and rear bumpers are re-chromed. Dynamat sound deadening is fitted.
After all this work, the Mk II remains in good condition. The panel fit is very good, the doors close with a nice clunk. The paint finish is very pleasing and the underside and body cavities have been sprayed with protective wax. The mechanics remain in good order and we are told that that Jaguar is a pleasure to drive.
The Mk II is supplied with its tool kit (minus the small adjustable spanner) and a history file which contains import / customs documentation from 1991, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust dating certificate, numerous invoices from the current and previous ownership, documentation and invoices relating to the engine overhaul in the 1990s, MOTs dating from 1999, the bill of sale from 2017, Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club information, photographs, an older V5C and the current V5C registration certificate.
