Description
AMG was founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in June 1967. As with many other companies, the first characters were borrowed from the two names of the founders. The third character 'G' in the AMG name came from Aufrecht's place of birth, 'Grobaspach'. Both were former Daimler-Benz technicians who offered initially engine and performance packages and various unofficial upgrades and accessory packages for Daimler-Benz cars.
Their first real major success was in 1971 when they managed a first in and second overall at the Spa 24 hour with their impressive 300SEL 6. 3, now famously know as the 'Red Sow'!
The rest they say is History.
Roll on 30 years, and the question whether an AMG package was really needed on a SLK was rather academic, insomuch, it was offered on almost all other Mercedes models, thus it became available from January 2001.
It was the first time AMG had used a six-cylinder as all previous engines ha been V8 power plants. This most exciting hand built SLK engine version was fitted with a belt-drive IHI compressor coupled with a water-to-air intercooler, plus loads of other clever engineering, all amount to an impressive 354bhp and a huge 332 lbft of torque.
This Fine Motor Car here was supplied by Mercedes Benz Tonbridge in April 2002, the first owner decided upon the attractive combination of Obsidian black metallic twinned with a charcoal/ crimson red leather interior. Everything else would you ever need is here and works as it should.
The last keeper purchased it from the very reputable Slade's Garage back in 2016 and has covered 10, 000 enjoyable miles since. From day one, servicing was entrusted to MB dealers and latterly known specialists, with the last pre-sale check/ service just untaken by Ranmore's own specialist workshop.
A fabulous and very usable fast touring convertible that ticks all the boxes in terms of its body/ interior condition (no sticky switches!) and mechanically on point too and at this price it seems ridiculously inexpensive.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Mercedes-Benz, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on the details below to arrange a viewing.
