1972 Jaguar XJ6 2.8 (Only 15,000 Miles) For Sale

We purchased this very special XJ6 from the son of the original owner (deceased) 26 years ago by introduction from the chauffer who had driven it since new. In fact the car had only been used until 1978 when it was then dry stored with just 5, 202 miles covered. We still have the letter from the son warranting this and that the car had received “no bumps, repairs or paintwork whatsoever”. Mechanically, the car required thorough re-commissioning which was undertaken by legendary ex-Coombes Jaguar engineer Ken Bell (invoice still with file) and only due to typical dulling paint from which all Jaguars of the vintage suffered, we had the car stripped and repainted to an exceptionally high standard, which has nicely mellowed and might now be mistaken for original. Classic and Sportscar magazine borrowed the car from us in 1997 after we had ‘run it in’ and drove it 1, 300 miles over 4 days to the South of France and the glorious 5 page colour article remains with the car. We sold the car on to the second owner, and the third when it achieved some successes on the concours circuit. Then the car journeyed to a collector in Ireland, where it sat dry stored for ten years, though it required significant re-comissioning again when it returned to the UK in 2019, which was carried out partly by the next owner and then through us. It has now covered 15, 000 miles . This is a rarity with the manual and overdrive transmission and being a rare, late Series 1, it had (from new) the stronger pistons which aficionados will recognise as important. Finished in Old English White with Red Leather, this XJ6 in the pure and most classic ‘Series One’ design is unrepeatable.
