Racing Pedigree:
Of the nine cars built, three competed at Le Mans, earning the model its prestigious name. At least one entered the Mille Miglia in period.
Provenance:
First Owner: The 8th car built and penultimate Le Mans Coupe, and registered 2 CMD, was initially owned by Anthony Twentyman, who allowed the Works to exhibit it at the 1954 Earls Court Motor Show. This Bristol engine was specially upgraded for this car, featuring a higher compression ratio of 8. 5:1.
Unique Features:
Non-standard options include adjustable radiator slats, centre lock wheels, Al-fin brake drums, adjustable sliding seats, and a ‘fly off’ handbrake.
Ownership and Restoration:
Racing History:
Twentyman raced FN197 in 1955-56. Subsequent owners F. P. Preece and Anthony Manuel continued its racing legacy until it was laid up for 20 years.
Remarkable Restoration:
Purchased at auction by Gerry Montpellier in 1995 and later oened by Richard Pilkington in 1999, the car was then acquired by Peter Jaye in 2001, who restored it to an exceptional standard.
The attention the detail is quite amazing and the car retains the beautiful original leather to the seats. The side panels have been replaced, but the original items are retained with the car
2 CMD still presents exceptionally well, such was the quality of the work.
More recently: Acquired by a discerning German collector, entered in various prestigious events in the EU, then displayed at Hampton Court Concourse in 2018 where the custodian was a major sponsor of the event. UK registered and taxes paid since 2023.
