Offered for Sale is this stunning 1968 MG Midget having covered only 10, 198 miles in the last 56 years.
Purchased in 1968 the car covered approximately 8200 miles in its first 10 months when the car had a small traffic accident to the rear of the vehicle. The bumper, back panel and exhaust were damaged in the impact. The exhaust was pushed forward enough that the Cast iron exhaust manifold broke. The car's owner approached the supplying dealer claiming that the exhaust manifold had broken and that this should be covered under Warranty. Understandably the dealer commented on the cause being the rear end impact and as such the exhaust was not covered under a Warranty claim. The cars owner subsequently threw the “dummy out of the Cot” and for the next 48 years the car was garaged and left abandoned. Upon the Original owners death in approximately 2015 the car changed hands a number of times.
A engine overhaul and recommission at a Nottingham Mg Specialist is Documented in 2016 followed by the vehicle's first MOT at 8395 miles. The vehicle received a new owner but unfortunately a far less satisfactory overhaul was carried out resulting in a cheap wrong colour Respray with a poor attention to detail.
The car came to our attention in 2022 when the vehicle’s current owner brought it to the workshop for further attention.
From the outset it was obvious to me after 36 years of working on the MG Marque that the Originality of the car and mileage was genuine. All panel work trim and interior are original. The hood was original but has recently been changed to eradicate a fading clarity of the rear window. The subsequent strip down and rebuild to a better than new condition further showed up the car's Provenance.
The car was dismantled down to an unclad shell and the engine bay shot blasted back to bare metal. All areas were repainted to all surfaces and reassembled back into a complete car. All Panelwork is original and in fine condition.
The original damaged rear panel has finally been repaired correctly 54 years later. The chrome and fittings are also new.
All fittings and fixtures were re-powder coated, zinc plated and repainted prior to rebuilding as seen in the photos.
All the interior and trim is original including all carpets and fittings, seat belts, rubber etc.
Mechanically the car is first rate. The engine received a overhaul rebuild in
2016 after years standing and the brake and fuel system was overhauled at the same time prior to its first MOT ever in 2016
The car saw little mileage until the current owner acquired the car in 2022 and had me carry out a major overhaul to bring the car up to its current condition. This extensive work covered the mileage from 8997 miles up to the latest mileage at 10198 . A complete time warp vehicle ready to be enjoyed and displayed at local car meets and events
