Description
The Sting Ray was conceived when GM’s Chief of Design Bill Mitchell laid eyes on a shortfin mako shark and requested his team to integrate its elements into the next Corvette. Out of all designers, Larry Shinoda engaged his advanced perceptual skills alogside childhood nostalgia of fishing days and created the XP722 concept car. Infusing numerous elements of the seaworld predator, it was rightfully named Mako Shark and caused an absolute sensation when presented at the New York Coliseum in 1962 International Automobile Show. For the next 4 years the C2 production Corvettes would display its aesthetics on open roads in dressing their race-bred V8 engineering. Despite being later revised into trend-governing editions, the original Mako Shark is regarded as the most historically significant Corvette design to date and displayed at GM Heritage Collection.
The C2 Sting Ray Convertible offered was produced in 1966 in most design-enhancing Nassau Blue Metallic over Black interior for the European market. Its 327 ci engine and manual transmission ensured thrilling performance that later benefited from a 350 ci engine upgrade. In 2019 it was acquired by a marque enthusiast who decided to conduct an extensive series of maintenance repairs that included a suspension, brakes and electrics overhaul, a Holley 4-barrel rebuilt and a new tire hub thereby ensuring an absolute stellar condition throughout. It is currently offered fully FIVA certified and MoT’d with its original 1966 registration and comprehensive repair records.
