This MG B GT has been in the current ownership for over thirty years, purchased as a project in the early 1990s by its retired tool maker owner who completed a programme of restoration and upgrades throughout that decade, with works carried out by himself and by specialists. The end result is justifiably a sports car to be proud of.
The body shell was restored with new floor panels, castle sections, sill panels and both rear lower quarter panels. Both front wings were removed, the inner wing panels cleaned and checked for corrosion, and refitted. Both doors were refitted with new door skin panels. A professional bare metal respray was carried out. Both front wings are fitted with liners and the MG has been treated with Waxoyl. The panel fit remains A1. The B is equipped with Alloy road wheels (including the spare), a front air dam, a Webasto sunroof, and the red grille is a personal touch. The renewed Biscuit leather interior trim and reclining seats remain in excellent condition, as do the carpets and headlining. The windows and doors operate on a fob, the dash and door cappings are restored as original and the windows have been converted to electric operation. The wiring loom has been renewed and Lumenition ignition is fitted as well as an alarm system.
The engine is an MGOC Stage 2 modified unit, coupled to a Ford five speed gearbox with new clutch, which improves motorway or longer distance driving. A new radiator has been fitted together with a stainless steel exhaust system. The rear suspension has a Frontline Developments 5-Link conversion which is fully adjustable with coil-over dampers. The front suspension has a double wishbone coil-over system designed and manufactured by Hoyle Engineering. The front brakes have been upgraded with vented discs and new calipers and the rear brakes are overhauled. Further mechanical maintenance since the 1990s has been carried out by the vendor, including some specific attention in 2010-2014. All invoices for parts and labour during the ownership have been meticulously retained, resulting in an expansive and interesting history file.
The history file contains a number of parts catalogues and suppliers lists, maintenance / operational and restoration manuals (including Haynes), an MG B Illustrated History, tax discs, invoices dating back to 1992, a schedule of work completed in the 1990s, radio player instructions, suspension kit instructions, alarm system information, wiring diagrams, MOT test certificates dating from 1997 and the V5C registration certificate.
