Here we have for sale our most unique Ducati yet. This stunning Ducati started its life as a 900 Superlite before being used as a donor to create this unbelievable motorcycle that has featured on promotional material for the "Bike Shed's" custom shows. The previous owner has supplied in his own words the transformation that took place on the bike.
"The custom build was three years in the making. It was inspired by the Pierre Terblanche-designed MH900e. I was rapidly approaching the big 5-0, and wanted to give myself a special present so I decided to do a special custom build to celebrate 35 years of riding bikes. I sourced a tidy very low mileage 900ss ie from Mint Customs and chanced upon a complete set of new old stock MH900 full carbon Performance Ducati bodywork.
I came across Stradafab of Kansas, USA, and I started talking to owner and titanium guru Randy Martin. He agreed to build me a one-off frame and a complete race exhaust system and he ended up fabricating a further load of lovely trick bits. We had to make sure the triple trees fitted and also an S2R swingarm. It was all in the planning: The frame he made was perfect, and needed no retrospective adjustments. Giles Harwood at HPS helped me marry Panigale 899 forks and the S2R trellis swinging arm with specially ordered Kineo wheels. The wheels are 3. 5×17 front and 6×17 rear, aluminum, and running Pirelli Phantom rubber. Performance Parts in Germany CNC’d a one-off set of yokes/ triple trees to get the Showa big piston forks to fit. The rear is suspended by an Öhlins DU106 piggyback shock. Stopping power comes from radial RCS front brake master cylinder and matching clutch master cylinder, monobloc M4 radial calipers and fully floating twin discs.
Once I had all the key parts I ferried everything down to Steve Hillary at the famous Red Max Speed Shop. An ex Ducati dealer and mechanic, Steve gutted the 900ss, leaving just the engine, which he stripped and rebuilt. It was then was blasted and then stove enameled. The engine was fitted with a vented clutch cover from Ducabike, who also supplied high performance clutch pressure plates and springs. The electronics are handled by Motogadget and a custom Tacho was built by Seattle Speedometer.
The carbon fiber replica bodywork was coated with a delicious blue metallic applied by the Somerset firm Paint Monkey. The build was completed in early 2017 and has done just over 800 miles since."
