During the last years of the fifties the ownership of Lancia S. p. A. passed form Lancia family to Eng. Pesenti. The new ownership adopted a more commercial strategy and after the good results of Appia and Flavia decided to produce a new car of little cubic capacity.

The Berlina was designed to substitute the old Appia, and was intended as a small cubic capacity but elegant saloon. The engineering was directed by Prof. Eng. Antonio Fessia, and had to follow his philosophy. Fessia introduced the concept of monocoque structure, and combined this monocoque with front wheel drive. The engine adopted again the traditional narrow vee architecture, after the flat four experience of Flavia. From the first 1. 1 litre 58 HP Berlina the model was evolved with two other different bodies and got more powerful engines up to 132 HP. The 2C model introduced the double carburetors, and passing through the adoption of 1216 engine in GT model, the GTE model reached the 1. 3 litres of cubic capacity mounting the same engine of Fulvia Coupé 1. 3 Rallye.

This charming Berlina 2C, manufactured in November 1964, was first registered in Verona, Italy on 02 January 1965 to a Franceschina Lonzin. The car spent its early years as a road car, before being restored and race prepared in 1992. The car passed to Giantonio Boscolo in 1993 before its FIA HTP papers were granted in 1994.

Following this, the car passed to Enzo Faccinelli in 1998. Two years later it would pass to Sergio Moratelli, with whom the majority of the car’s known competition history involves. The Lancia competed in numerous hillclimbs throughout Italy in the early 2000’s, as displayed on the driver’s rear window, but would later be imported to the UK in c. 2016 by the previous owner, an ex-works Saab engineer and Silverstrone Instructor. This owner would leave the car unregistered until 2021, using it sparingly and self-maintaining it. The current owner acquired the car in February 2024 with the view to updating the car for historic racing within HSCC, but with the majority of his time spent in Spain and thus little time to prepare the car, has decided he would like something ‘ready to go’.

Still very well preserved from its 1992 restoration, presented in white with its ‘Moratelli’ livery, this Fulvia sounds fantastic with its high-revving 1091cc V4 engine, and features side-exit exhaust, four-speed manual column shift gearbox, lightened bonnet and boot, plexiglass side and rear windows, OMP bolt-in 38 X 2. 5 FIA roll cage with strengthened mountings, competition suspension, uprated engine mounts and more. Please note the car features a close-ratio gearbox with crown wheel and pinion specifically set up for hill-climbing. For circuit use, a change of ratios will be required. The owner has a contact in Italy who can provide this.

Included with the vehicle is a history file containing copies of the car’s original Italian registration documents. Also included are its 1994 dated FIA HTP papers, its Group 1 Italian homologation papers and CSAI technical passport (complete with numerous entries showing the car’s history and maintenance in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. Various import-related paperwork are also present, along with a Lancia Motor Club dating certificate and sundry documents. 6x spare 14’’ wheels are present, which will be required for new FIA papers.

Overall, this charming Lancia provides a great opportunity for entry into the numerous series available for Group 1 touring cars. Various eligible series include BARC, Masters, HSCC, HRDC, Peter Auto and more. Worth noting is this Lancia’s eligibility for the Goodwood Revival’s ever-popular St Mary’s Trophy, which notably favours interesting and unusual cars.
