An unusual machine of the day
Part of a private collection
Stored in the attic of a barn
Established in 1897 as a cycle manufacturer, formerly known as Hotchkiss, Mayo and Meek at Hill Cross Works, Coventry; when Hotchkiss died and John Meek left the company, it came under the control of Edmund Mayo and Bernard Rotherham and moved to Lincoln Street becoming the Coventry Eagle Cycle Co. The company produced motorcycles between 1899 and 1940.
On offer is a 1925 Coventry Eagle 500cc side-valve machine bearing an older restoration, purchased by the late owner as part of a collection of Coventry Eagle small ‘cc’ machines. It is not known when it was purchased, however, he took it to various shows and events until it was placed in the attic of a barn with the rest of his collection. It has not been used for some time and will need some recommissioning before it is put back on the road. It is offered with a current V5C.
