"... the sheer ease of driving it at least on public roads makes it a shockingly fast, massively entertaining road warrior. Of all the AMG beasts I've sampled and there have been many this has to be the most exciting." - Richard Bremner, Autocar.
Offered here is one of the most exclusive and sought after limited-edition Mercedes-Benz models of recent years, the CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet, only 80 examples of which were produced.
The Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG was developed by AMG, inspired by the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) race series. Based on the C209 CLK platform, it features a supercharged 5. 4-litre V8 engine producing 582 horsepower, far surpassing the DTM competition car's 4. 0-litre V8. The five-speed semi-automatic transmission is controlled via paddles, while the car's suspension includes height-adjustable units and stiffer bushes. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/ h in 3. 9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 320 km/ h.
Styling elements, such as its deep front apron, large air intakes, flared wheelarches, and boot-mounted rear wing, are derived from the DTM race car driven by Bernd Schneider in 2003. Carbon fibre is used extensively in the body and interior, including bucket seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara. The cabin is competition-inspired but equipped to Mercedes-Benz's luxury standards, with features like a digital rev counter and the COMAND infotainment system. Strictly a two-seater, this exclusive model blends racing performance with road-going luxury.
Despite a base price (excluding any options) of around 236, 000, all 100 coupés built sold out immediately. High-profile owners included Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button and Takuma Sato. A limited-edition run of 80 cabriolets followed.
Built to Swiss specifications and finished in Obsydian Black metallic, this ultra-rare Cabriolet model is fitted with the following options: front and rear seats and door handles in Classic Red; lower part of dashboard and centre console in Classic Red
Steering wheel in Classic Red; carpet in Classic Red; personalised sill plates and logos to front seats.
Purchased new by the current owner, the Mercedes has been kept in dry storage as part of his extensive private collection. Having covered a mere 152 kilometres from new, at time of cataloguing, it has recently been recommissioned by Stratton Motor Company.
The accompanying documentation includes photocopy of the original purchase invoice detailing all the equipment fitted to the car, as well as a photocopy of the manufacturer's Certificate of Conformity. It should be noted that the car does not come with any registration document.
