The 412 was the final, glorious culmination of Ferrari's series of luxurious four-seaters that began with the introduction of the 365 GT/ 4 2+2. Launched in 1972, the latter reaffirmed Maranello's commitment to competing with the world's finest luxury sports saloons and appealing to a mature yet discerning clientele who might have otherwise chosen a Bentley or Mercedes-Benz. Representing evolution rather than revolution, Ferrari's finest 2+2 was in production for an impressive 17 years, from its inception until production ceased in 1989. Despite its long production run, its exclusivity meant that seldom more than 200 were sold in any given year.
With matching numbers and colours, this Ferrari 412 #79542 is a well-preserved example of this rare modern-classic Italian Gran Turismo. One of only 576 delivered worldwide, it is understood to be one of only 270 specified with the desirable five-speed manual gearbox.
Delivered new to France in April 1989 by Charles Pozzi S. A., #79542 was purchased by Mr Marcel Granier, who took up residence at the equally exclusive Saint-James Club in Paris. Finished in the refined shade of Argento Ferrari with a black leather interior. It rides on a set of 415mm metric (16. 3 Imperial) five-spoke alloy wheels shod with Michelin TRX tyres. Equipment includes pop-up headlights, a three-spoke steering wheel, a Veglia Borletti analogue clock, electric windows, a Blaupunkt New York radio/ cassette, dual-zone air conditioning, and electrically adjustable front seats.
First registered in May 1989 in France, where it remained until 2023, this Ferrari 412 a genuine jet-setters car boasts an intriguing history marked by several anecdotes. The original owner, Marcel Granier, whose name is recorded in the cars warranty booklet with the address of the Saint-James Club in Paris, is most likely the renowned Venezuelan television magnate known for his support of the attempted coup against President Hugo Chávez and the brief government of Pedro Carmona Estanga. He is also reputed to be a discerning Ferrari collector, having notably owned a Ferrari 275 GTB. More recently, this Ferrari 412 was seen alongside the stunning Zoë Kravitz in a promotional campaign by photographer Purienne for the Parisian brand Saint-Laurent.
The car is now located in Belgium, with an odometer reading 95, 010 kilometres from new. This 412s most recent maintenance was carried out in September 2024 by Gipimotor Brussels. Previously, in July 2023 at 94, 574 km, the Garage Heritage Motor Cars, replaced the accessory belts, and re-gassed the air conditioning system. Technicians at Heritage Motor Cars also carried out a service in July 2022 at 91, 554 km, which included an engine oil and filter change, the brake system bled and fluid replaced, the engine oil temperature sensor overhauled, and a general check-up. In November 2019 at 89, 280km, technicians at Sampato Automobiles Sport and Prestige replaced the air conditioning compressor and drier filter, reconditioned the rear light cluster, and replaced the numberplate lights. Accompanied by its service book, the stamps are as follows:
