Calling all BMW M car collectors, investors and enthusiasts! We are delighted to offer to the market this ever desirable and increasingly rare 1998 BMW E36 M3 Evolution finished in Techno Violet Metallic, with very low mileage, 1 keeper, excellent history and a comprehensive specification.
Produced by BMWs M division in house. The E36 generation M3 ran from 1992 -1999, with the Evolution model being upgraded from the earlier cars in 1995. The Evolution, utilising the S50 engine, increased horsepower to 321bhp. It was praised at the time for its excellent performance and engine characteristics as well as its handling, with near perfect 50/ 50 weight distribution. The ‘Evo’ was also equipped with a faster steering rack, better limited slip differential and double VANOS engine completing an impressive drivers package, and a firm favourite with enthusiasts and speculators.
Registered on the 2nd March 1998 to its supplying dealer MLG BMW in West London. It was used as their demonstrator and kept in the showroom until its 1st year anniversary, and on the 2nd March 1999 our vendor took possession of his dream car which has been his pride and joy for the last 25 years. We have evidence of the running in service from MLG on 24/ 03/ 1998 @ 900miles. Subsequent main dealer services up until 2005. After this the vehicle was looked after by local independents. In 2015 the decision was made to put the car into permanent storage.
In 2019 the vendor took the decision to return the car to its former glory, having always been well maintained, the vehicle was now 21 years old and had been used for sometime as a daily driver in London.
Bridge Classic Cars were instructed and put together a ‘hit list’ to make sure all common areas of concern/ wear were addressed. The vehicle underwent a full respray, replacing and restoring parts along the journey.
This car is already considered a modern classic and one of only 500 SMG E36 cars built for the entire European market - which in our opinion adds to its exclusivity. Much has been written about the SMG gearbox, it was an astonishing feat of engineering with 'Motor Trend' stating "the SMG is the most sophisticated transmission available in a production car (2002) and 'Car & Driver' found this expensive option "to be worth its price in convenience." The driver is provided with the accuracy of manual gear selection, the convenience of automated shifting and the speed & adaptability of driver-adjusted computer control. Technology borrowed from F1, the SMG was designed to perform gear changes faster than any human.

The vehicle presents in fantastic condition throughout. With the exception of an AC Schnitzer strut brace, as well as consumables such as tyres, this car presents with it's original and unmodified specifications, an exceptionally rare find, particularly among M powered vehicles of this generation. There are some small items such as certain trims that could be replaced and a few small marks around the car, but overall this is a special car that is a testament to its ownership and investment to get it to the vehicle you see today. A true M car gem, the combination of its colour, ownership, exclusivity with production numbers of this type and careful and costly restoration works positions, this car is an excellent addition to a collection, for an enthusiast or for future investment.
