Description
motodrome are pleased to offer this very early ‘pull-handle’ 1963 MG B roadster, finished in Tartan Red with black leather interior piped in cream, and with a black hood.
Chassis no G HN 3 1338
Engine no 18 G U H 3579
First UK registered 18/ 04/ 1963 and still retaining it’s prized original non-suffix registration number.
It still retains many of it’s early features including the door handles and furniture, early hood, aluminium bonnet, 3-synchro gearbox, dynamo, and it’s 3-bearing engine, which runs beautifully.
It’s further fitted with chrome wire wheels (shod with a matching set of Dunlop Sport Classic tyres, that have covered little mileage since fitting in 2020), luggage rack, later door mirrors, inertia reel seat belts and radio.
The last owner has had it since 2007, and the V5 only shows 2 owners prior to him.
We think it was restored in the late 1990’s around a new Heritage bodyshell, and at the same time the engine was rebuilt, a new clutch fitted, and all new chromework.
The last owner used it very sparingly and seems to have covered no more than 1100 miles in it before putting it away in his barn in 2015. Five years later he exhumed it and sent to Woolmer Classic Engineering for over £6000. 00 of recommissioning work, plus correction of myriad small niggles arising from the earlier restoration, and has seen light use since, mainly living back in his barn.
We think the odometer reading of under 3000 miles relates to the mileage covered since restoration.
We have all the bills for the extensive recommissioning, plus other history going back to 1964 – it seems to have had just the one owner, a Mr Watts, until the mid 1970’s
Absolutely spot-on to drive, and looking really smart, it will come with our usual 6 month warranty on sale.
It’s a rare opportunity to acquire a properly sorted example of the sought-after early B roadster, that needs nothing except a good home
