Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2024 - Cars on Saturday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. From its VIN number, we can establish that this handsome Mustang began life in 1965 at Ford's San Jose plant as a 'notchback' coupe powered by a 289ci, 2-valve, V8. It remained in the US for the first 35 of its life before arriving in the UK in 1998 and is now UK-registered with a current V5C.
More recently it was becoming apparent that a schedule of works was required to return the Mustang back to top form and the decision was taken not to restore it in to original form but to modify it and upgrade it both cosmetically and mechanically. The bodywork was fully stripped and refinished in a very cool shade of Corris Dark Grey metallic enhanced with black Le Mans stripes and further lifted by a full de-chrome and colour-coded wheels. Internally a full retrim was undertaken and TMI Sports seats fitted not only to the front but the rear also, with steering duties taken care of by the Mustang-style wood-rimmed steering wheel.
Clearly, with these aesthetic modifications, the mechanical aspects of the vehicle had to be addressed as well, with motivation now provided by a 347ci 'stroker' V8 delivering power through the Tremec high-torque, 5-speed manual transmission to the upgraded drive-train that now consists of a Currie Enterprises rear axle with Posi-Trac Gear Booster LSD, a Wilwood full disc brake conversion and adjustable coil-over shock absorbers. Other items worthy of note are an alloy race radiator, bespoke stainless steel dual exhaust system and colour-coded 17" American Racing wheels. With a fully detailed engine bay, impressive interior and period age-defining looks, all wrapped up in a desirable 'Restomod' package, this Mustang has certainly come of age and is ready to be enjoyed once again, be that out on the open road or standing with head held high on the show field.
Accompanied by a comprehensive history file ( Specification sheet available upon request ) and full photographic record of the build, your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the potential on offer.
