Description
History:
The MG B was a sports car launched by the MG division of BMC in May 1962 as the successor to the legendary MG A. The MG B was produced in over half a million units (including the GT Coupé) until 1980 and is regarded as the most successful British sports car of all time. In terms of performance, the MG B was on a par with its competitors at the time of its release. Even a Porsche 356 Super 90 could not beat it. Above all, it was superior in terms of handling, whose exemplary validity was the MG B's greatest asset. Some even claim that the MG B was so un-Britishly reliable. This original MK2 was restored by an enthusiast at great expense. The restoration work included repainting, a new interior, an original replacement engine from Bastuck and much more.
Bodywork and paintwork:
In addition to the mechanical work, the restoration work also included an extremely beautifully executed repainting on a blasted and stripped basis. As a result, the entire body is now in almost new condition.
Interior:
The interior was also completely renewed. And because no expense was spared here either, the MG B was fitted with genuine leather seats made in England by MGCOP. The attractive wooden steering wheel and the matching radio from the period round off the perfection of this example.
Engine and mechanics:
The new replacement engine, overhauled by Bastuck, has completed less than 2, 000 kilometres. A complete inspection booklet documents the considerable expenditure of around CHF 13, 000 for the overhaul of the mechanical system.
Chassis:
The original chassis was also revised for the last veteran's inspection in May 2023.
Driving experience:
The MG B is a genuine roadster of the old guard. Nevertheless, it feels good-naturedly sporty and is an entry-level classic for everyone.
Recommendation:
This MG B fulfils high expectations. If you are looking for an MG B with signs of age and patina, this is not the car for you. This roadster is suitable for enthusiasts who want to acquire a British roadster in mint condition and will pay a little more for it.
