The Oldsmobile 88 (a. k. a. the Eighty-Eight) was a full size car sold by the Oldsmobile division of GM and produced from 1949 until 1999. From 1950 to 1974 the 88 was the division's top-selling line, particularly the entry-level models such as the 88 and Dynamic 88. The 88 series was also an image leader for Oldsmobile, particularly in the early years (1949-51) when it was one of the best performing automobiles thanks to its relatively small size, light weight and advanced overhead-valve high-compression V8 engine. With the large, high performance V8, the Oldsmobile 88 is considered the predecessor to the muscle cars of the 1960s.
The all new top-of-the-line and flagship 98 styling series was introduced in 1950 and was a more modern slab side design with the rear quarters blended in and with a 3" shorter wheelbase and 4" shorter overall length. Short tail-fins with round tail lights mounted on top, and interior upgrades included in the deluxe models of more chrome and the use of two-tone combinations with the instrument panels featuring a horizontal theme with all the gauges and controls placed squarely in reach and sight of the driver. The flagship model, the Deluxe 98, equipment included rear seat armrest, Deluxe Electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel and horn button, special door trim and stainless steel wheel trim rings.
This particular example is a beautiful older restored example finished in Red color paint with a matching Red interior and with a Black soft top. The car looks extremely impressive throughout. All the chrome work is excellent and the original spare wheel and jack is in the trunk and the car has no signs of ever having any rust or accidents.
This particular car also drives very well, straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the temperature always remains cool!
This is a rare opportunity to own a vert rare and desirable 1950 Oldsmobile 98 Deluxe 2 Door Convertible - one very desirable, collectible and unabused example of one of the outstanding early 1950's all American cars and a truly beautiful GM classic car design.
