Description

The Porsche 911 3. 2 carrera is one of the most sought-after 911s among collectors. Sporty and powerful, it has a timeless design... a cross between the first 911s of the 1960s and the more contemporary generations of the 964 and 993. The Porsche 911 Carrera 3. 2 was produced from 1984 to 1989. If you're interested in classic Porsche 911s, the 3. 2-litre Carrera range is a good place to start. With over 70, 000 units produced, the Carrera 3. 2s are still plentiful and affordable. They combine the tradition of the first cars with a touch of modernity and comfort. The Carrera 3. 2 was offered in all three body styles of the 911: coupé, convertible cabriolet and Targa, with its removable central roof panel. The SC was launched with a 180 bhp three-litre engine, which was quickly increased to 188 bhp when Porsche realised that the 911 would be around for the long haul. A 204bhp version followed in August 1980. For the 1984 model year of the E-series 911 (which went into production in September 1983), Porsche introduced a new and improved model: the 911 Carrera. Renewing the Carrera name for the first time since 1977, it featured a new, larger-displacement engine, the 3. 2-litre horizontally opposed flat-six. The six-cylinder boxer engine now has a displacement of 3, 164 cm³ thanks to a 4 mm larger bore, the crankshaft of the 3. 3 Turbo and a compression ratio of 10. 3:1 in the 930/ 20 engine. In the US, Canada and Japan, the Carrera was offered with the lower-compression 930/ 21 engine, offering 9. 5:1. As a result, the 930/ 20 engine produced 231 bhp at 5, 900 rpm while delivering 284 Nm of torque at 4, 800 rpm, while the 930/ 21 had to make do with 207 bhp and 265 Nm. According to Porsche, 80% of the engine has been completely redeveloped, and Digital Engine Electronics (DEE) is making its debut. Its main benefits are better fuel consumption, cleaner combustion and therefore maximum power. The system works with a common control unit in which all the engine's operating states are programmed. The correct injection quantity and ignition point are assigned to each engine speed, accelerator position and temperature. Overshoot fuel cut-off, meaning no fuel was consumed when the engine was over-revving, and electronic control of idle speed when auxiliary components were activated were useful additions provided by the engine's digital electronics. The knock control system ensures 'healthy' engine operating conditions. The DEE system is combined with different injection systems, depending on the engine. Other significant improvements include more reliable oil pressure fed timing chain tensioners, thicker brake discs, larger rear caliper pistons, a larger brake booster and a brake pressure limiting valve that reduced the tendency of the front wheels to lock up before the rear wheels. The heating system was also slightly improved, and Porsche's 915-type five-speed manual gearbox, in use since 1972 and notorious for its serrated play and lack of a gear selector centring spring, was retained on the Carrera. Externally, the Carrera is almost indistinguishable from the SC, the only clue being the fog lamps integrated into the front apron. Only cosmetic changes were made during the Carrera's production run, with a redesigned dashboard featuring larger air conditioning vents appearing in 1986. The Carrera was available in Coupé, Targa and Cabriolet body styles from 1984 to 1989, and the interior was also upgraded, including the centre console and heating controls, which were taken from the 930 model. The dashboard, seats and door panels were identical to those of the SC. Standard equipment included high-back half-leather seats and electric windows. This Porsche 911 3. 2L is a 1986 European G version equipped with the 915 gearbox, developing 231 bhp. Imported from Canada in 2017, it is in very good original condition and fitted with the right options (see certificate below): Airco (renovated with a new compressor in 2022) Electric and heated sports seats Self-locking axle Central locking ... Very well maintained, accompanied by extensive documentation, it has been very well looked after since its return to Belgium. It drives very well!
