Description
Launched in 1963, the Jaguar S-type was offered as a model that would more suitably fit into the 'executive' car sector than the more "Sports Saloon" MK2. Equipped with the new independent rear suspension from the MKX and E-type, the S-type offered more superior ride and handling characteristics, it also enjoyed a more spacious interior, complete with a dashboard-mounted walnut centre console. Visually, the S-type was easily identifiable by the elongated boot, flatter roofline and eyebrow headlamps, the model was powered by a choice of 3. 4 litre (210bhp) or 3. 8 litre (220bhp) DOHC straight-six engines allied to either manual or automatic transmission. This1968 S-type 3. 4 auto is finished in British Racing Green with the original a Suede Green leather interior and is in wonderfully original condition. Owned by the same family for five decades and regularly displayed at shows in the 1980s. First supplied to Enfield Rolling Mills Ltd, Enfield in July 1968. The second owner acquired the car in 1969 and it then passed into a period of the long-term family owners in August 1975 The previous owner's father purchased the car and is said to have been meticulous, ensuring the S-Type remained in show condition. The Jaguar Periodic Maintenance Vouchers record regular servicing maintained across the three owners. The writer can confirm that the car drives exceptionally well. With a few blemishes and evidence of five decades of enthusiastic polishing, the original BRG paint is still very presentable. The 6-cylinder engine fires up extremely well showing good oil pressure. It is obvious that this S-Type has been extremely well maintained over its life, with a healthy XK engine, smooth transmission and suspension that sits well. The interior stands up very well with sympathetically refurbished Suede Green leather seats, excellent woodwork and nice door cards. Offered with the original tool kit, an extensive history file, owners manuals, an original green logbook, original service records, previous reg documents and current V5C.
