Five steps to buying with Car & Classic
Set up your account
Set up your Car & Classic account by adding a few details and a payment card. Your card won't be charged if you buy via an advert, but if you win an auction a service fee will be taken.
Enter the amount you'd like to pay
Make an offer on an advert by submitting your best price and the seller will accept, decline or counter your offer. Submit a max bid on an Auction and we'll place automatic bids on your behalf to keep you as the highest bidder until we reach your max bid amount.
Pay into our secure account
If your offer is accepted, or you're the winning bidder, the vehicle is yours! You'll be asked to pay the full amount into our secure account via bank transfer where your money will be stored until you collect the vehicle.
Arrange vehicle transfer
Once your funds have cleared into our secure account, we'll put you and the seller in touch to arrange the vehicle collection between yourselves.
Drive away happy!
Once you’ve seen the vehicle and confirmed you’re happy to proceed, we’ll release your funds from our secure account and send them to the seller.

If you buy with Car & Classic, you'll be asked to transfer payment into our secure account via bank transfer. Your funds won't be transferred to the seller until you've got the keys and you both confirm the vehicle handover has taken place.
100% payment protection
Our secure payments are processed by MANGOPAY which means your funds are securely held in an account that's separate from Car & Classic to guarantee 100% payment protection.
Bank-level security
When you buy through Car & Classic, we want you to be confident that the person you're dealing with is a genuine seller. Every seller goes through rigorous identity checks by submitting their ID and personal information before a transaction is completed.
How does bidding work?
All Car & Classic auction listings are professionally written and fact-checked so you can bid with confidence. Submit a pre-bid before an auction starts, or a max bid during a live auction, and we'll automatically bid on your behalf to keep you as the highest bidder until we reach your max bid amount. Bidding is done in set increments which change depending on the price of the vehicle.
In order to make online bidding fair, we have an anti-sniping system which prevents people from bidding in the final moments to win an auction. If someone places a bid within the final three minutes, the timer will automatically reset to three minutes remaining to allow other bidders time to react and counter bid.
How do I make an offer?
Once you've set up your Car & Classic account, you can make an offer on any of our adverts. Enter the amount you'd like to pay and it'll be sent to the seller so they can accept, decline or make a counter offer. If your offer is accepted, it's all yours! We'll be in touch to share our secure account details for you to transfer the accepted amount.
What if I buy privately?
The benefits of buying through Car & Classic are only available when you transact with us and are there to keep our users safe when buying and selling online. You can choose to buy a vehicle listed on an advert privately, but we can't protect you or offer our secure payments if you do.
Does Car & Classic have buyers' fees?
Car & Classic cares about you transacting safely. Auction winners pay a service fee to cover the cost of our escrow service which protects buyers and sellers. The service fee varies depending on the reserve price and is fixed for each auction.
Can you help me with shipping?
Whilst we don't offer shipping ourselves, we work with partners who can help transport and import vehicles. Our customer success team will be happy to introduce you to an appropriate third party that can manage your shipping needs.
