Description
Classic Mini 1000 just been subject to a nut and bolt restoration.
Please note the mileage is indeterminate, suffice to say the engine is tip top.
Returned to its original colour and given a little lift with some vinyl stickers and the chrome blacked out.
I bought this car as a running restoration, having previously been de-seamed and "painted" blue.
Its been taken back to the bare metal, a couple of previous weld repairs were removed and re-done, completely stripped, stone chipped and repainted in sun burst yellow.
When we started re assembly it was clear that age had got to everything.
So it has new clutch and brake cylinders, alternator, radiator, wiring, replacement lights, switches, window rubbers, wiper motor, hoses (silicon and E10), brake lines (copper), rebuilt calipers (on upgraded disks), new seat belts, rebuilt and re-painted engine, rebuilt greased and cleaned heater motor, replacement wiper boxes, new carpet door cards and headlining, pretty much everything that was not the actual body work has been replaced.
Have receipts from Mini Spares totalling over £2, 220, plus another £600 or so in miscellaneous items from ebay.
Also managed to find a reasonable set of Mary Quant seats which are far from perfect but do look cool plus a works cooper steering wheel.
£400 worth of new tyres on repainted mini lites.
Overall the car owes me way over £8, 000 because I like to make sure its done right and lasts, it was fun giving some life back to it.
Starts first time on the button, stops fine and its a mini so smiles per gallon is infinite.
I was going to add this to my classic collection but even I have to admit I have too many cars so I have put this one and a few others up for sale, I only need 2 to sell so what ever does not, I shall keep and enjoy. I kind of hope this does not go as I have put a lot of literal blood sweat and tears in to it. Everyone stops to look at this car, its becoming quite the selfie queen. This is by no means a concourse car but its as close to standard as I could get it whilst keeping it a head turner. It is a £62 a year insurance not tax no mot usable driving classic car which could be used every day. And really in a car looking this good, who needs more than 36hp anyway (its actually more like 45hp as its a slightly "fun" engine).
