As production of the R129 was coming to an end in 2001, Mercedes made some very special editions of their legendary and sought-after sports car.
The R129 series was first revealed at the Geneva Motor Show and produced from 1989 up until 2001. Thought by many as being the last “classic” SL, the R129 series is becoming increasingly more desirable.
Heavily revised from the earlier R107 SL’s the R129 was fitted with an advanced multi link rear axle and adaptive damping suspension. This combination resulted in the revolutionary silky smooth ride quality enthusiasts all know and love.
In the final year of production, Mercedes launched a very limited number of the SL Designo cars - the cars were available as an SL280 or an SL320.
The Designo offered something very special and in very limited numbers - only 50 of each combination.
This is the SL280 in Almandine Black.
This particular R129 (built in the very last year of production) was registered in September 2001.
Covering just 53, 000 miles from new, it comes with Metalic Paint, 6 Hole Lightweight Two Piece 17” Alloy Wheels, Spun Aluminium Instrument Binnacle and Gear Selector Surround, Electric Memory Seats, Cruise Control, Burr Walnut Trim and Designo Badging.
The car is finished in Bordeaux Leather with Designo Embroidery, Matching Floor Mats, Electric Steering Column Adjustment, Heated Memory Seats and Rear Passenger Seats.

The car has had 3 previous owners - I have owned it for the last 8 yrs.
During my ownership, the car has been very much a Sunday drive, only ever taxed for 6 months of the yr (from April - Sept), and was bought primarily for summer European road trips. The car has run faultlessly on our trips to The Alpes, The Pyranees, Switzerland, South of France, Germany and Italy.
This 204hp 2. 8ltr 280SL is accompanied by an impressive folder of service and maintenance documents.
