For sale is a historic Austin-Healey 100 (BN1/ 224691) which was built on 9 March 1955 and delivered to Larke Hoskins in Sydney to be sold through the New South Wales Austin dealer network. When new it was finished in Old English White with red trim.
BN1/ 224691, it can be said, has had in its earlier days, an active competition life running in circuit racing, hillclimbs and sprints with such names as notable Australian driver Frank Matich connected to its history. There are photos showing the car running at such iconic Australian circuits as Warwick Farm and Bathurst.
During the 1970s, painted dark blue and sporting a 100S front shroud and grille it was actively raced in Victoria and New South Wales. Following an accident in the early 1980s it was rebuilt with a new old stock Austin-Healey 100 BN2 chassis. So equipped, it was back on the track and destined to lap even quicker with the capacity of its four-cylinder engine measuring 2914cc.
The start of the 21st century saw a change of hands to a new owner on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Shortly after, it received a full body-off restoration, in sympathy with its competition history.
While certainly not concours, (although it did win a road class in 2012) this car has been equipped with a raft of highly sort after components such as a four-speed gearbox (and overdrive), twin 2in SUs, cable throttle, two inch full flow exhaust with extractors, flat top pistons, touring grind camshaft, fully balanced engine, lightened flywheel, electronic ignition, hi-torque starter, spin-on filter, 72 spoke painted wire wheels, hypoid-drive 3. 9:1 differential, Lucas P700 Tripod headlights and the list goes on. There is even a very rare Lucas Day-Night rear vision mirror.
This car is a very spirited performer and has been fastidiously maintained by its recently deceased owner who purchased the car in 2006. In his hands, it was prepared for touring in mind and with 94HP at the rear wheels (dyno sheet available) it easily achieves just that. Conversely, finished in striking red and with the windscreen down, it’s perfect for that Sunday morning run to your favourite coffee shop.
The car comes with a number of boxes of meticulously collected and prepared notes concerning the car’s history, workshop manuals, photos and so on. Of course, all stay with the car.
This car has been advertised on behalf of the family.
