Here is a very unusual Honda SH50 first registered to Royal Mail Group PLC, Chesterfield S49 1HQ on 19th February 2001. It joined the fleet 26th February 2001, its fleet number being 0660161. This particular one seems to have run out of a Delivery Office in the Brighton area.
As far as I can tell Royal Mail bought a few SH50s in small batches for modification in their workshops for use by Posties. As you can see the dual seat has been cut down and a rack has been fabricated to carry a tray of mail. Most I have seen have had the rack removed and a dual seat reinstated.
It has been owned and enjoyed, albeit rather sparingly by my Dad since 2015. He acquired from a chap who bought it out of Royal Mail service.
There's a service print-out from the Royal Mail workshop detailing dates, mileages and types of service it received from March 2001 - February 2005 when the trail stops...
Overall condition is good. There's plenty of scope for improvement, but the bones are fairly decent. Obviously there are marks, scrapes and splits to the plastics commensurate with age and the type of use it has during its early years. But generally speaking it presents well and generates a good bit of interest both day to day and at vintage vehicle shows. It has been garaged all through his ownership and doesn't venture out if the roads are wet.
MoTd until 31st October 2025 - it's had clean passes every year in my Dad's ownership.
Nippy little 2 stroke engine that thrums along nicely. Usual Honda build quality and reliability.
Recent new mirrors and battery. Good continental tyres.
This would make a great entry into the world of classic 2 wheelers. It's lightweight, it's easy to ride with its large wheels and twist and go throttle. Very cheap to run - * almost* as cheap as walking!
Hopefully it will go to someone who appreciates it for what it is.
Very reluctant sale.
Cash on collection.
