Description
Bentley R Type auto 1954. Recent work includes rebuild of gearbox and brake servo by Graham Whitehouse. Rebuild of distributor and carbs. New radiator core. Removal of head and detailed inspection of engine. Installation of new valve seals. Fitting of reconditioned fuel tank. Extensive refurbishment of interior including complete rebuild of all seating, new door cards, roof lining etc, etc. The car has been stripped to bare metal, doors, wings etc removed and a complete repair of bodywork and repaint carried out to a very high standard. The car has five virtually pristine tyres and is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system. Most recently the rear dampers were serviced and all rear suspension pins and bushes replaced. Three point front seat belts are fitted as is an electronic regulator to improve reliability.
Shortly prior to my ownership the big end and little end bearings were replaced, the front suspension was rebuilt and the brakes serviced.
I have driven the car long distances in France and the UK and she has never let me down. She performs very well on the road and the engine is particularly strong. The car was driven to Le Mans in 2022. Despite the very hot weather she showed no signs of overheating and ran perfectly. Owners and workshop manuals are supplied with the car.
This is a reluctant sale due to loss of garage space. I purchased the car from the Real Car Company in 2011. The previous owner had started on a rebuild but failed to complete this.
I think these cars look fantastic and this example has proved to be particularly strong and reliable on the road. Though a heavy weight, these R Types are totally usable in modern traffic.
I have spent a small fortune and many hours refurbishing this car but the driving experience totally justifies this in my opinion.
